St Patricks Cathedral – Wales Drive 4

About St Patricks Cathedral – On December 8, 1850 the first mass was celebrated in the new chapel which is now St. Patrick’s Cathedral. The chapel was blessed in June 1856 by Bishop Hartmann, Vicar Apostolic of Bombay and Administrator of Poona, who gave it the name, St. Patrick.

A project including major restoration, repairs and beautification of the Cathedral was blessed by Bishop Thomas Dabre and Bishop Valerian D’Souza on September 8, 2009.A team of 16 professionals from the parish worked tirelessly for one entire year. The project included re-plastering of turrets, replacing and redesigning all wooden doors and windows, fixing theme based 16 stain glass panels on windows illustrating the story of Jesus, enhancing the new backdrop to the Sanctuary wall, a skylight above the altar depicting the descent of the Holy Spirit, rose windows, acoustic treatment and revamp of the interior of the Cathedral and much more. These features herald the rebirth of the Cathedral which has become an important landmark in the city of Pune. The 160-year-old St Patrick’s Cathedral after major restoration and beautification was blessed on October 23, 2010 by Rt. Rev. Thomas Dabre, Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Poona.

The church is not open all thru the day, but there is the Adoration room to the right side to the entrance of the church, which is open all throughout the day and late in the evening.
