About Holy Cross Church – The Holy Cross Church was built in Calapur at the recommendation of the King of Portugal in 1957 as a means of evangelization among the natives. The Dominicans baptized thousands in Calapur in a short span by setting an excellent example strictly insisting that children up to the age of ten avail of daily classes in reading, writing and Christian doctrine which was conducted in the church. The children would hear a bell ringing every day and meet at an appointed spot, from there they went in procession singing the doctrine thus both imbibing and spreading the faith.
The Blessed Sacrament was always exposed in this Church. The façade of the Church of Santa Cruz is a replica of the Se Cathedral and many little secrets are carved into the main door (here translated) ‘As for me, however, I will boast only about the Cross of Our Lord Jesus Christ’ Galatians 6,14.
